Lenexa rec center gym8/31/2023 ![]() Currently if you go to the basketball courts at Lenexa Rec Center, it reminds one of a superspreader event. Many gyms dont allow pickup at all, like the KU Med Kirmayer gym. I think ideally the rule should be to allow 3 on 3 half court, but mandatory masks on and off the court, until summer time when vaccinations will have reached a much greater portion of the population, then re-evaluate. Im fine with allowing half court basketball at limited capacity - BUT I think everyone should wear a mask while playing and while on the sideline. Those teenagers have personal responsibility too and they are not following through. As we ramp up vaccination, I hope situations like this dont contribute to a resurgence of COVID. Despite reminders from staff to wear masks, the sideline players, mostly teenagers, refuse to comply. While 4 on 4 half court basketball is currently allowed without a mask, a mask is required if players are standing on the sideline. However, they do have trouble enforcing the masking policy on the basketball court. I am always telling people I meet about it-and will continue to.Įxcellent facility. I do make sure I leave my child with the individuals I feel the safest with and take an active role in ensuring her safety.This is a great place to be a member. It was handled very professionally-I was amazed.Although I have had some trepidation with using Kid Zone, I am amazed with some of the staff who have gently taught me how to let my child go-it was very hard for me, a new mom. They allowed us to stop our membership without any repercussions and gave us time hacks within which to make decisions about staying or leaving for the time being.
